With the support of Rogers Sport & Media, Raven Reads has launched a campaign to highlight Indigenous artists, authors and entrepreneurs in Canada and the impact they have on the Canadian economy. We want to celebrate Indigenous authors, artists and entrepreneurs across Canada by creating a campaign that highlights the people behind these experiences and discuss how unique platforms like Raven Reads have helped them reach a broader market and audiences.

Celebrating Indigenous Creators

Jenn Harper

Jenn Harper has been making a name for Cheekbone Beauty in the beauty industry for a number of years but has been gaining popularity quickly after being on the hit CBC show, Dragons Den. Cheekbone Beauty is helping Indigenous youth see themselves in a beauty brand.

Maia Caron

Born and raised in the mountains of British Columbia, Maia Caron is the Métis author ofSong of Batoche, a historical novel that was #11 on CBC’s 95 must-read books of 2017, CBC’s Historical Novels to Read this Summer list, and was chosen by Raven Reads as their spring 2018 Read for Reconciliation. Maia’s new dual timeline historical novel set in 1944 Ukraine and 1972 Salt Spring Island, will be published in Spring 2024 by Doubleday Canada titledNever Say We Go Last.

Mya Beaudry

The creator behind Kokom Scrunchies is Mya Beaudry, a talented 11-year-old Algonquin from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation. Since starting Kokom Scrunchies in the Fall of 2019, Mya has always ensured that all Kokom Scrunchies are handmade with love in Canada. Mya named each of the original Kokom Scrunchies after Indigenous role models in her life and she hopes to inspire others in her journey.

David A. Roberston

David A. Robertson is a writer and freelance journalist and member of Norway House Cree Nation. His memoir,Black Water, won the Carol Shields Winnipeg Book Award and the Alexander Kennedy Isbister Award for Non-Fiction. His middle-grade fantasy series, the Misewa Saga, includes the #1 national bestsellerThe Barren Grounds. He won the Governor General’s Literary Award for the illustrated booksOn the TraplineandWhen We Were Alone.
